1934 年出版的一本小說 Goodbye Mr. Chips 是講到一個男生學校的老師的故事, 這位男老師深受學生喜愛, 大家都稱他為 Mr. Chips, Mr. Chips 娶了一位倫敦舞台劇的女演員, 這位女演員風趣活潑, 和 Mr. Chips 的木訥老實堪稱絕配, 這對夫妻在學校像是學生的父母, 每一屆畢業生都帶著懷念他們的深切的感情離去, Mr. Chips 後來做了校長, 他的太太卻在戰爭的空襲中喪失, 每一屆畢業生說到這個悲劇都唏噓不已, Brookfield School 是電影中的男生學校的名字, Fill the World with Love 是 Brookfield 的校歌.
Goodbye, Mr. Chips 三次拍成電影, 也拍成連續劇, 但以 1969 年 Peter O’Toole 主演的那一部最為成功, 人們把 Peter O’Toole 演出的 Mr. Chips 當成曾經真實存在的人物, Fill the World with Love 變成一首大家深深喜愛的歌, 聖誕節經常在音樂會裏出現.

仍然記得許多感人的情節，觀看O’Toole的演技永遠是一大享受。
這首歌於1993年發行, 成為 Sting 最受歡迎、最知名的歌曲, 但是這首歌的持續有名卻是因爲只活了三十三歲的女歌星 Eva Cassidy 拿去唱, Cassidy 所錄的單曲交給唱片公司去發行, 通常單曲歌曲的推廣都是先讓電台播放, Cassidy 的唱片公司特別把唱片做成金色的, 彰顯歌名 Fields of Gold 的 Gold, 這首歌電台一播出就大受歡迎, 很多正在開車的聽眾, 為了專心聽, 竟然把車停在路邊, 聽完再上路.
聖誕老公公存不存在? 很多小孩子都在問這個問題, 但是他們大了以後, 連問題也懶得問, 或者就像我女兒一樣, 說只有”想當聖誕老人的那個人”的確存在, 1897 年, 八歲的 Virginia 寫信給紐約的報紙 The Sun, 就問聖誕老人存不存在, 報紙的專欄作家 Francis Church 也煞有介事的回答這個問題, 他說沒有人能回答這個問題, 每個人都應該自己回答這個問題, 每個人都要自行決定, 聖誕老人送禮物這件事, 在我們生活裏要扮演什麼樣的角色, 你可以只是享受一下送禮收禮的人情溫暖, 或者你可以循著聖誕老人的故事, 去瞭解為什麼耶穌降生是人類莫大的禮物, 讓聖誕的”福音”在你心裏發酵.
我照著老徐的建議去做, 過幾天, 果不其然在校園碰到她, 唱片送是送了, 卻沒能約得成她去看電影, 她收了唱片, 問我一句: 誰是 Ray Conniff 啊?, 我沒料到有此一問, 正結結巴巴的時候, 一大群女生轟過來, 她就跟著走開了, 原來唱片封套雖然漂亮, 音樂也不錯, 但誰是 Ray Conniff 我卻不知道, 也沒有去先找資料.

我看了那老片子許多次，但只記得看了O’Toole 的片子一次或二次。每次都想到我們都是有緣才會在這世界上遇到你。
